Willis, VA (July 18, 2025) – Mountain Fever Records is proud to announce the release of Backline's powerful new single, “Dark Rolling Deep”—the first glimpse of their forthcoming album. Penned by bandleader Katelyn Ingardia, this haunting and beautifully crafted track weaves a timeless tale of love, superstition, and tragedy set on the high seas.
Set in the era of wooden ships and sailor lore, “Dark Rolling Deep” follows a woman who falls for the captain of a vessel bound for distant shores. But the sea, steeped in mystery and danger, had other plans. With poetic storytelling and vivid instrumentation, the song captures the depth of longing and the ache of what’s lost to the tides.
“Dark Rolling Deep” comes to life through the talented lineup of Katelyn Ingardia on guitar and vocals, Jacob Carrol on banjo, David Heavner on mandolin, Jeff Partin on guitar, dobro, and vocals, and Chris Williamson on bass. Together, they bring depth and emotion to a track that showcases Backline’s signature blend of heartfelt lyricism and dynamic musicianship—pushing the boundaries of traditional bluegrass while honoring its roots. This powerful new single is available on all streaming platforms today!
More about Backline:
Backline is a dynamic five-piece bluegrass band hailing from South Carolina, known for their fresh sound, tight arrangements, and rich harmonies. While their style is rooted in contemporary bluegrass, they blend tradition and innovation—performing original material that makes up over 80% of their catalog, along with carefully selected covers of country favorites and bluegrass classics. They also enjoy spotlighting the work of other great songwriters whenever they can.
Backline’s goal is to deliver a lively, heartfelt, and memorable experience at every show. Whether it's a high-energy festival set or an intimate listening room, their performances aim to connect, entertain, and grow their ever-expanding fanbase.
The band’s name is a nod to their local heritage. Growing up in an area surrounded by abandoned textile mills, several members had family who worked in those mills as young adults. Mill Hill Villages often had designated sections: the “Boss Line” for management, and the “Side” and “Back Line” for the everyday workers and their families. The name Backline honors that legacy—tying a meaningful piece of local history to a new musical journey.
