I Hear Bluegrass Calling Me’ by Carolina Blue was written by one of our mentors and a very special friend, Roy Chapman, so it’s automatically important to us. We changed the arrangement a bit to fit our style because we wanted to tip our hats to a couple more of our bluegrass heroes: Bill Monroe, the originator of this music, and the Osborne Brothers, whose cutting-edge vocals and arrangements helped keep bluegrass relevant when it was in a period of decline. It’s a fun tune to play and listen to. We sure hope everyone is enjoying hearing it as much as we are playing it!
Carolina Blue is a Brevard, NC based band whose roots run deep in the tradition of Bill Monroe and Flatt & Scruggs. The band was formed in 2007 after the release of the album "Nothing So Blue" by Bobby Powell and Tim Jones.
Carolina Blue won the South Carolina state bluegrass championship at RenoFest in 2011. The band's repertoire consists of original songs; including Tim Jones' "Spring Will Bring Flowers", which was recorded by 2014 IBMA entertainers of the year Balsam Range, many bluegrass favorites, and gospel too, all done in the traditional style. In 2016 Carolina Blue recorded a set on Song Of The Mountains in Marion, VA.
Available recordings are Bobby Powell & Tim Jones "Nothing So Blue" (2007 produced by Steep Canyon Ranger Woody Platt and featuring Platt, Graham Sharp, Mike Guggino, Shannon Whitworth, and Roy Chapman), "Carolina Blue Live at Renofest" (2011) as well as self-produced, "Goin' Home Today" (2016).
