“This song, written by Doc & Merle Watson, is one of my favorites,” says Hurst. “As a road musician, as well as all the other travels I’ve done, this song represents the perspective of the 'traveler.' Sometimes while I’m doing exactly what I love - performing and teaching music - I really miss home even more and want to get back to my family. This is a perfect song to include on my Travels & Time CD.”

Bringing “Southbound” to life, Hurst is joined by an all-star cast of musicians including Christian Ward on fiddle, Matt Wingate on mandolin, Kyle Triplett on banjo and Michael Gaisbacher on bass. Their combined talents create a dynamic and heartfelt rendition of the Doc & Merle classic, paying homage to the original while infusing it with a distinct Bluegrass energy. The upcoming album Travels & Time is set for release later this year via Pinecastle Records, and the Ohio native is currently in the studio putting the finishing touches on it. The project also includes the previously released lead single “One More Lonesome Train,” which debuted last fall.
