Nashville, Tenn. – Irish-born bluegrass artist Danny Burns has officially released his new single, “Brother Wind” ft. Dan Tyminski, available now on all digital and streaming platforms via Bonfire Music Group. The track serves as the second single from Burns’ highly anticipated upcoming album Southern Sky, set for release on August 22.
Written by the legendary Tim O’Brien, “Brother Wind” is a reflective and haunting ballad that explores themes of wandering, resilience and the search for peace. Burns’ earthy vocals pair seamlessly with Tyminski’s unmistakable harmonies, bringing a weathered depth to the lyrics. The instrumentation weaves together warm acoustic guitar, steady banjo and a driving beat, creating an evocative soundscape that honors the track’s roots in both Appalachian and Celtic traditions. Burns is also joined by instrumentalists Cody Kilby (guitar), Billy Contreras (fiddle), Matt Menefee (banjo), Ethan Burkhardt (upright bass) and Jerry Roe (drums).
The single follows the success of Burns’ lead track, “Blue Ridge Blue” featuring guest musicians Sam Bush and Bronwyn Keith-Hynes, which climbed to #1 on both the Bluegrass Today Airplay Chart and the Grassicana Chart, while also earning consistent rotation on SiriusXM’s Bluegrass Junction. Spending several weeks at No. 1 on multiple charts, it's become Danny’s biggest single on Bluegrass radio to date. The forthcoming album Southern Sky is a genre-blending journey that unites some of roots music’s biggest figures including Vince Gill, Ricky Skaggs, Tim O’Brien, Mike Rogers, Cecelia Castleman and more. The 9-track collection explores a wide range of emotional terrain while spotlighting Burns’ distinct ability to fuse Irish musicality with the storytelling spirit of American roots.
Born and raised in Donegal, Ireland, Danny Burns’ music is steeped in the traditions of bluegrass, folk, country and Celtic music. His earliest influences came from fiddle tunes and banjo sounds echoing through the pubs of Ireland, and for years he honed his skills as a traveling troubadour across the U.S. His 2019 debut album North Country garnered critical acclaim from Rolling Stone, CMT and Billboard. Burns followed up with the Hurricane EP in 2021, working alongside Sarah Jarosz, Jerry Douglas and Sam Bush, and later released Promised Land in 2022, which reimagined mainstream songs in a bluegrass/folk style—earning multiple No. 1 charting hits in the process. With a cinematic approach to songwriting and a passion for merging cultural sounds, Burns continues to carve out a unique path in Americana music.
