About the Song

his song was born out of a conversation I had with some friends about Gallatin Road in Nashville, TN. They had recently moved to Nashville, and were remarking on how crazy the energy was on that road in particular. I think one of us said, “anything goes out on Gallatin Road”. I took this idea into a writing session with Pat McLaughlin and it was one of the easiest songs we’ve ever written together, because that road is such a beloved and colorful place. In the first verse it starts by listing the local amenities— “they got weird shops, used tires/where the donut den used to be/payday loans, prescription drugs and all the delta 8 you need.” Gallatin Road has the feeling of a timelessly playful country duet, with a Jerry Reed groove and outlaw energy. It kicks off with a guitar lick reminiscent of Glen Campbell’s “Southern Nights” and falls directly into a swampy, backbeat heavy groove, assisted by Sturgill Simpson drummer Miles Miller.

The chorus centers around the ultimate guitar-wielding Nashville character who’s driving this strip: “Anything goes out on Gallatin Road/you can drive slow or put the pedal on the floor/there’s a man playing guitar behind the wheel of his car/anything goes out on Gallatin Road.” I felt like this song was so rooted in East Nashville energy that I decided to enlist the Nashville native and growling Soul-Country singer, Timbo, to sing it with me.

By the third verse it’s clear that this is truly an irreverent love-song to the grittier side of Nashville and it’s a little bit nostalgic, with— “If you want thrills like old Nashville Gallatin road’s alright”.

Bronwyn

Nashville Fiddler

For her third album, Rattlin' Bones, Bronwyn, a Grammy-winning artist and two-time IBMA "Fiddle Player of the Year," decided to purposely leave her comfort zone and dive headfirst into a new, unknown realm of musical possibility for the acclaimed artist — Songwriting.

"If I'm going to be an artist and a front person, I'm going to need my own material that fits the live show," Bronwyn says. "It definitely felt like a very steep learning curve, and it's been very humbling, but the songwriting piece has been sort of the next step for what I want to do."

While her debut album, Fiddler's Pastime (2020), was an instrumental offering showcasing Bronwyn's fiddle skillset and prowess, it was the sophomore release, I Built A World (2024), that introduced the world to her singing style. And yet, with Rattlin' Bones, it truly feels like Bronwyn has dug deep within to finally uncover and embrace her unique talents and sonic tones.

"In a lot of ways, life has settled for me, where I've gotten married and it feels like certain pieces have fallen into place," Bronwyn says. "And that's given me space to stir up more chaos in my life by deciding to start my own band."

Backed by a whirlwind array of pickers, Bronwyn has elevated herself into the national spotlight of Americana, bluegrass and roots music as of late, which is why the urge to jump into the studio and capture this momentum and energy seemed like the perfect timing with Rattlin' Bones.
