About
Randy Kohrs is universally recognized as one of the most versatile and accomplished multi-instrumentalists, session masters, and vocal powerhouses in modern bluegrass and acoustic music. Renowned for his fluid, deeply expressive mastery of the Dobro and slide guitar, Kohrs effortlessly bridges the gap between classic, hard-driving bluegrass tradition and a cutting-edge, contemporary acoustic edge. Raised on a family farm in New Virginia, Iowa, Randy began his musical journey at age eight, quickly mastering a stunning array of stringed instruments. His professional breakthrough arrived when bluegrass legend David Parmley enlisted him for the acclaimed band Continental Divide. Moving to Nashville, Kohrs rapidly became one of the city's most elite, in-demand session players and side-men, touring and recording with a legendary roster including Dolly Parton, Patty Loveless, Dierks Bentley, Tom T. Hall, and Hank Williams III. Career Highlights & Accolades: • Grammy Award-winning producer and engineer behind Nashville's premier Slack Key Studio. • Featured instrumentalist and background vocalist on over 3,000 studio albums for top-tier bluegrass, country, and Americana artists. • Hand-selected by Dolly Parton to tour as part of her elite acoustic band, The Blueniques, and record on multiple albums. • Multiple IBMA Award nominations, including two-time nominee for Dobro Player of the Year. • Released a series of critically acclaimed, chart-topping solo albums including A Crack in My Armour, Old Photograph, and Quicksand. Today, Randy continues to shape the past, present, and future of acoustic music from his production console and his tracking room. Whether he is laying down a blistering, definitive instrumental track, singing a soulful lead tenor line, or producing the next wave of roots-music talent, Randy Kohrs remains a vital, driving force in the bluegrass community and a legendary friend to The 615 Hideaway.
