About the show

Amy Orlomoski is a highly respected, award-winning veteran of bluegrass radio, having served as a champion of the genre for over 35 years. A native of Eastern Connecticut, Amy’s deep appreciation for bluegrass was sparked by her brother Dave, a regional picker. Though she does not play an instrument herself, she found her true musical calling behind the microphone during a college broadcasting class. Amy has spent over 25 years as the primary host of the Bluegrass Café on WHUS Radio (the powerful 91.7 FM voice of the University of Connecticut at Storrs). Before bringing her signature style to WHUS in the spring of 2000, she created a strong regional following hosting Simply Bluegrass on WECS at Eastern Connecticut State University for a decade. Her profound impact on the Northeastern bluegrass community culminated in her official induction into the Rhode Island Bluegrass Alliance (RIBA) Hall of Fame in April 2023. When she isn't on the air, Amy serves as the Director of the Andover Public Library, where she playfully considers it her "duty" to introduce bluegrass music to library patrons whenever possible. On-Air Style & Sound Bridging the Eras: Listeners get a masterful mix of the latest bluegrass new releases seamlessly blended with the classic foundation tracks that shaped the genre. Live Community Pulse: Her show features a weekly "Bluegrass Calendar" segment, keeping fans fully connected to live music events and festivals across southern New England. Artist Connections: Amy regularly hosts on-air interviews with fan favorites and emerging artists, making her show a dynamic hub for the bluegrass community. Pure Fun: Amy approaches every broadcast with an infectious energy, letting listeners in on the "dirty little secret" of bluegrass broadcasting: it's just plain fun!
