Carl Goldstein is a legendary, towering figure in the American bluegrass community, celebrated as a master broadcaster, festival promoter, and preservationist. Based in Delaware, Carl has spent more than 50 years shaping the landscape of acoustic roots music on the East Coast. In 1971, he co-founded the Brandywine Friends of Old Time Music (BFOTM), and since its inception, he has served as a primary director of the Delaware Valley Bluegrass Festival—one of the longest-running, most prestigious traditional music gatherings in the country. In 1977, Carl channelled his immense passion for performance art into the airwaves, launching Fire On The Mountain on 91.3 WVUD FM (the Voice of the University of Delaware). Over the course of an astonishing 49 continuous years on the air, he turned his Saturday morning slot into a cultural institution. Carl’s monumental impact culminated in official praise from the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), which hailed him as "one of the most impactful individuals in the history of bluegrass music in promoting, preserving, and presenting our beloved music for all to enjoy."
