About the show

Chuck Dicken is a monumental pillar of public broadcasting, having dedicated more than 35 years to enriching the cultural landscape of Western Maryland. Based in Frostburg, Chuck began his journey in the audio world in 1990 as a community volunteer, hauling his personal music collection to campus to spin records. His immense passion for programming and audio engineering quickly transformed into a lifelong career. Today, he serves as the official Station Director and Program Manager for WFWM 91.9 FM, the non-commercial, public radio voice of Frostburg State University. Under Chuck's steady leadership, WFWM has grown from a modest, student-run operation into a vital community lifeline. He fiercely champions the belief that public radio's true mission is to support the local, campus, and student communities through diverse, thought-provoking media. When he isn't managing station operations or directing local educational segments like "American Moments," Chuck is behind the microphone sharing his deep knowledge of acoustic roots. On-Air Style & Sound A Curated Bluegrass Haven: Chuck designs his playlists to capture a rich, traditional bluegrass soundscape, ensuring listeners get an authentic experience rooted in high-fidelity storytelling. The Alternative Edge: Rejecting predictable, top-40 formulas, Chuck treats his audience to a wide, expansive world of sounds. Over his decades at WFWM, he has masterfully integrated genres like bluegrass, folk, jazz, classical, and indie styles into the station's identity. Pure Community Focus: The broadcast captures an incredibly warm, neighborhood-centered atmosphere driven by Chuck's seasoned, approachable voice and deep ties to the Frostburg community. Honoring Independent Curation: Because Chuck operates on a strictly non-profit public radio platform, his musical selections are purely passion-driven, focusing on track quality and artistic merit over commercial radio politics.
