Darcy Whiteside is a highly respected musician, educator, and a premier voice for Canadian bluegrass broadcasting. Raised on a dairy farm near Didsbury, Alberta, Darcy's deep roots in acoustic music began at age eight when he first picked up the banjo. He spent his teenage years studying under Canadian banjo champion Jake Peters, mastering the intricate rolls of the instrument and eventually playing classic country sets in a band alongside his sister. Darcy has channeled his multi-decade musical expertise into the airwaves since 2017 as the host of The Bluegrass Hour on CKUA Radio Network. CKUA is one of Canada's oldest and most prestigious public broadcasting institutions, and Darcy’s Sunday afternoon slot has become an essential weekend staple for roots music lovers across Alberta and global streaming audiences. Beyond his work behind the microphone, Darcy is a heavily sought-after music educator who teaches banjo, guitar, and vocal harmony workshops at major acoustic events, and serves as an executive leader for the Northern Bluegrass Circle Music Society. On-Air Style & Sound Innovators and Traditionalists: Darcy expertly bridges generations, building playlists that celebrate the rigid, hard-driving founding fathers of the genre right alongside modern, progressive acoustic trailblazers.
