About the Song
“Dismal Holler” started with a Dismal Hollow Road sign I saw along I-66. That name became the starting point for a fictional Appalachian community dealing with a mine closure, addiction, and the feeling of being unable to leave.

Aaron Jones
Aaron Jones is a songwriter, recording artist, and producer from Woodbine, Maryland, with family roots in Eastern Kentucky and East Tennessee. Raised around congregational singing, he brings a love of harmony and story to bluegrass and gospel music. His songs have been recorded by the Primitive Quartet (“I Know That I Know”), McKamey Legacy (“Just Preach the Gospel” and “Mighty Good Way”), and Fair Haven Quartet (“Time to Sing”). He also recorded his original “Gather All the People” at Abbey Road Studios for Simple Gospel at Abbey Road. His four-song EP, Dismal Holler, explores heartbreak, a troubled Appalachian community, the lure of the rails, and a father’s love. It releases November 6, 2026, through Thousand Hills Productions
